One great tool for analyzing a situation is the situational judgment challenge. Basically, there are two ways to take a situation analysis challenge. You can either prepare for the exam and then try to come up with the right situation analysis or you can just get up and start doing some research.
If you prepare for the exam, you will be able to determine which situations will help you the most in the exam. The way you prepare for the situation is a lot like preparing for an actual exam. You need to figure out which questions you will be able to answer quickest and which ones will require more effort. In other words, if you know that you will be having to come up with a decision about one of the situational issues then you should start researching it as soon as possible.
If you want to come up with a situation-based situational judgment you will have to do some thinking. The best way to think about situational situations is to imagine yourself in the shoes of the person who will be required to make a decision in the situation. What kind of statements would they likely make?
There are many great books on situational analysis, you can read and study from. One of the most famous of these books is “Situation Thinking: How It Can Save Your Company And You” by Jack Collins. This book not only teaches students how to think analytically in a given situation, but it teaches students how to approach a situation from all viewpoints and how to develop effective strategies for resolving the situation once it has arisen.
Once you have thought about the situations that will likely appear on the exam, you will be ready to start preparing for the situational judgment exam. You can do a situational exam review by looking at past exams and picking out the questions that you remember the most. This will give you a good idea of what kind of questions you will have on the exam and how prepared you should be. This exam review is also a great way to see how others are preparing and get ideas for approaching situations that you might not have considered.
The situational judgment exam can be difficult if you do not prepare properly. The exam is probably the most difficult of all the executive exams. But the benefits of a good grade far outweigh any difficulties that you will experience. So, if you have not already taken the exam and are preparing, make sure you set aside a few hours to learn as much as you can so that you know what you are doing and can answer all of the questions quickly. If you can review the materials ahead of time you will be able to go over the material when the time comes and still understand the material without being lost in memory or having to re-read everything.
The situational exam is a great preparation tool for situations where you must make a judgment call about a situation. The exam is divided into two parts. Part one deals with reading situations and answering questions about the situations. Part two is more hands-on and will test your analytical and problem-solving skills to see where you may be weak and where you may be strong in an important situation. There is no substitute for experience, but taking a situational judgment exam will prepare you to face the situations you face in your career.
