These programs require much less coursework and typically only require a year or two of onsite coursework. There are some limitations to online degree programs though such as the fact that students need to be enrolled in a course that offers laboratory experience.

There are certain states that do not require licensing and certification to be considering a professional electrical engineer. In order to legally work in any state in the United States as an electrician, you must have a legitimate license or certificate from the state that you are working in. Some of the most common electrical engineering degrees are an Associate’s of Science in General Engineering (ASCE), a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSE) or a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSE). Students must first enroll in an approved college or technical school that offers these four-year degrees. Other required courses include mathematics, physics, chemistry, and computer science.

After passing these examinations, engineers must enroll in an appropriate college or technical school to continue their education. The number of courses included in their degree will depend on the degree level.
